The Eight Components of Earthquake Preparedness: #7 First Aid

If you’re caught in the mess of an earthquake, you’re inevitably going to be surrounded by a lot or rubble, dirt, and dust. So if you’re injured, the risk of infection will be high. That’s just one reason why first aid should be one of your top eight priorities when it comes to earthquake preparedness!#45TheEightComponentsofEmergencyPreparednessFirstAid

  1. Water
  2. Food
  3. Heat
  4. Shelter
  5. Light
  6. Communication
  7. First Aid
  8. Sanitation

Even if you haven’t been injured in the initial quake, aftershocks are sometimes even more powerful and definitely have the capacity to knock you off your feet, or worse. Hopefully you do manage to escape this risk.

When you do escape this risk, there’s still a high probability that you’ll come across people—either friends, family or strangers—who will really need your help, and your first aid supplies. Don’t you think it’s better to be the one helping others, rather than the one relying on others to get you through because you weren’t prepared?

Also don’t be fooled by a minor injury. A small scratch can seem like no big deal until it gets infected. You want to keep your strength up so that you can focus on survival, and helping your loved ones and your community get back on its feet! So once again, take care of the details!
